Coal quality and sampling

Attractive historical analyses, uncertain coverage

Historical results show attractive coal quality, but it is unclear which seam interval, property area or part of the mine they represent. The sample record needs to be connected with the maps and operating history.

Different COAs for the same source

Multiple certificates show materially different results. Sample location, raw versus prepared coal, reporting basis and production timing need to be examined before drawing conclusions about consistency.

A buyer specification to evaluate

A buyer’s requirements need to be compared with available mine and preparation information to identify what is supported and where further sampling or product verification is needed.

Maps, sampling records and laboratory reports become more useful when read alongside the experience of the people mining, sampling and preparing the coal.
